This is a great recipe for kids, and perfect for camping or cooking outdoors when you get the weather!
You mght be amazed what children will eat when they have made it themselves. Give them the option to choose the toppings for their pizzas, and with a little bit of encouragement they can often be persuaded to try something new…
250g Self-Raising flour
Pinch of salt
3 tbsp Olive Oil
Enough warm water to make a stiff dough
Tomato passata or paste
Chopped veg of choice! Try cherry tomatoes, onion, olives, spinach
Any other favourites. Tuna, cooked chicken pieces, prawns or chopped ham.
A small handful of your favourite grated cheese
Mix the flour and salt in a bowl, and make a well in the centre. Gradually add enough water to make a stiff dough.
Roll or thump it out into one big circle or two little ones depending on the size of your pan, and fry it in the pan in a little olive oil for about 8-10 minutes on each side, depending on the ferocity of your camping stove. It should be slightly browned.
Spread the tomato paste or sauce on the top side, scatter on your toppings, and sprinkle on the cheese. You can then stick it under the grill to melt the cheese, or if you are camping and just have a pan, you can fold it over and cook until the cheese is melted inside.
Either way, it’s yummy messy choppy healthy fun for kids, and a great way to get them involved in cooking and preparing food.
